Our Solar & Off-Grid Installations

All you need is an understanding of what you want to power, and when – we can work out the rest. If you’re local to us in Tewkesbury, we highly recommend bringing the vehicle into us to discuss your requirements with a technician who will look at space available and offer the best possible solution to add the power you need.

For example, if you’re looking to add or replace solar panels, we will measure the space available on the roof, if you need to fit or replace leisure batteries, we will check the best location and advise accordingly. If you want to upgrade to lithium, we will check the compatibility of your 240v charger / split charge / solar charger to ensure these are suitable for use with lithium iron batteries.

Every motorhome and camper van is different, which is why we design and install systems to suit your lifestyle and energy needs. Our services include:

  • Leisure batteries – lead acid, AGM and lithium
  • Solar panels (rigid and flexible) with MPPT solar charge controller
  • Inverters
  • DC to DC chargers
  • 240v hook up (shore line)
  • Additional 240v sockets
  • 12v sockets, USB ports & voltmeters
  • Repairs to existing 12v and 240v wiring

We use high-quality, reliable components to ensure maximum efficiency and long-lasting performance.

Case Study: 2024 Volkswagen Crafter commercial vehicle

The task;
Tudor Environmental came to us for a bespoke installation to add power in the back of one of their show vehicles. They needed a solution to charge power tool batteries and run a TV and lighting whilst giving customer demonstrations.

The solution;
We installed the Victron DC to DC charger which is used in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the (smart) alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service/leisure battery.
A Yuasa L36-AGM 95Ah battery was fitted discreetly inside the workbench. AGM technology offers better endurance, more cycles and faster charging than standard lead acid leisure batteries.
A Renogy 2000w inverter was mounted in the requested position and used to give power to the TV and 240v sockets we fitted next to the workbench.

A Voltmeter panel was also fitted next to the workbench and powered directly from the battery. This allows the customer to monitor the voltage in the leisure battery and charge a USB or 12v device without switching on the inverter.

We also carpet trimmed the load area of the vehicle to make it look more professional when giving customer demonstrations. To finish, eight flush LED lights were fitted in the new headlining, and a front and rear dash and reverse camera were fitted for peace of mind.

The Task;
We were contacted by a returning customer to create a bespoke power system for his trips to the continent in his new motorhome. Can we provide enough power to allow him to go off-grid for weeks at a time, with no need for 240v charging, but also have the capacity to plug into shore when needed?

The Solution;
The Victron Multiplus Compact was the driving force of the system. This is a combined inverter and charger in one. Its many features include a true sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, hybrid power assist technology, plus multiple system integration features. It allows the power system to switch between shoreline and batteries within milliseconds, with no disruption is power distribution.

Two 200Ah lithium batteries were fitted in place of the original leisure battery, along with a Victron Energy DC to DC charger to charge the leisure batteries from the smart alternator and the start battery (when the engine is running). The motorhome already had two 150w solar panels. We added a third panel to the roof, along with a Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT, bringing the total to 450w solar to keep the batteries topped up.

The Victron Cerbo CX system was fitted to enable the customer to monitor the whole system and gain full control from anywhere using the Victron Remote Monitoring (VRM) portal and the VictronConnect app. The smart GX Touch display was fitted as a monitoring hub inside the motorhome.

We also installed two waterproof 240v exterior sockets, a twin 240v socket in garage and a replacement kitchen 240v socket with twin USB’s.

Whilst the vehicle was with us, we also added heated seats, a Maxview Roam 5G wifi system for connectivity, a campernav head unit with roof mounted DAB aerial and replacement speakers, an alarm and door locks for security.

The Task;

To get as much solar power on the roof as possible!

The Solution;

We installed three 200w rigid solar panels on the roof along with a dual battery MPPT charger to allow the solar panels to charge the leisure and starter batteries. The batteries are charged at high power, while a secondary (starter) battery is given a trickle charge of up to 1A to keep it topped up and ready for use.

Two solar panels were connected directly to the customers own Ecoflow system, the other panel was connected to the lithium batteries (2 x 100Ah) we fitted in place of the original leisure batteries, under the front seat.

A Victron DC to DC charger was fitted to enable the vehicles alternator and the starter battery to charge the leisure batteries whilst driving.
